RAW images and D300s

another question-if I load the settings from my D3 onto a CF card-can I successfully them load them onto the D300s or are the firmwares/cameras not compatible that way? (I was able to do this with the D3 to the D300, therefore making the D300 be pretty close to the D3)

Bradly-I downloaded the Adobe DNG and can't get the images to open. What am I doing wrong?

...then select the platform (MAC or PC) to download on the right side of the page. Shouldn't matter which one, as version 5.5 says it converts D300s files on both platforms.

Not sure what you're doing wrong... what's your workflow (i.e., what steps are you taking) with the DNG converter?
