Anybody familiar with Aperature program from Mac
Eric Johnson, Photographer

->> I'm working for a small paper in Minnesota and toying with bringing the idea of putting toning software on each of our reporters computers to our publisher. Our reporters don't need something as encompassing as Photoshop, but I would like them to have something so they can work and access photos if I'm busy with something else.

I'm just wondering if anybody has worked with or is familiar with Aperture as a cheap alternative for this idea and if they would recommend it.

->> Reporters and photo enhancing programs? You sure you want to go there! ;-) I would suggest Photoshop Elements much cheaper and pretty basic.

->> Aperture has a pretty steep learning curve and is pretty demanding. Photoshop Elements, iPhoto or Picassa might be a better choice.

What do you need to do? Basic toning or everything to CMYK conversions?

->> Hey Jack. Just basic toning, and enough to get them by on Mondays, which I have off. It's gotten to the point where I'm afraid to look at Monday's paper. But photoshop is just too overwhelming for most in the newsroom.

Our other problem is we're a very small paper and I need cheap but not crappy. It can be a tough sell sometimes (just finally got CS4 which...ready for this...an upgrade from PS6).

I've been eying elements, but a buddy just turned me on to Aperture so I thought I would check it out.

thanks

->> Robert,

I'm not sure I want to do it, given my tutorials have been...trying at best and I'm not sure how much more dumb I can get. More than likely I'll try and talk them into Elements.

Thanks

->> Eric, you can download a thirty day trial for each reporter, and have it try it for an assignment.

What is your current method of organization for ALL your images?

Even Preview can do some image editing.

On another note, do you have a series of basic actions that they can use - i.e. ones with auto levels/color/sharpening/contrast, etc. so pics on Monday will not look as bad?
