->> Great read Jim, especially considering F1 is what I really hope to earn a living shooting one of these days.
Darren Heath is an absolute legend. |

->> Love working for my newspaper but if I couldn't be where I'm at I'd love to be a team photographer for Ferrari, McLaren or Red Bull or be employed by a wire service covering F1 full time.
Can't wait to go to the race in Canada next year and hope Indy gets it back real soon.
Thanks for posting the link to the NYT story.

Anyone interested in the beauty of auto racing needs to check out the Audi Truth in 24 documentary. Not necessarily photo related, but the video work is gorgeous. |

->> Adam, Truth in 24 is AMAZING! I totally agree. Did you know the guys that shoot for NFL films each week were the ones that shot that? If you watch again, you can totally see the similarities in shooting style.
More on topic, being an F1 photographer is what I want/am going to do one day. Just have to work hard enough to get there :) Thanks for the post. Darren is a hell of a guy as well as a photographer. |

Just from the trailers alone truth in 24 looks amazing and your right Jamey I can see the same shooting style that makes the nfl film guys tops. |

->> I'm not a motorsports fan at all, but I do enjoy well made docu's, and Truth looks excellent.
For anyone interested in MotoGP, Faster www.fastermovie.com is an excellent watch, even if you just like seeing the human body turned into a ragdoll as it flies across a road.
I talked to a few of the NFL guys a few years ago. Amazing how they can manually focus an old Arri on a player throwing a football 40 yards. One guy even had the old selenium light meter. I busted his chops and asked him if that was the compass that could help find the Black Pearl. |

->> As someone who grow up watching F1 racing nothing, worldwide, tops that except futball (European & SAmerican). Never shot a race but it would be a brilliant thing to do capturing those cars rocketing by. One blink and you miss the last car.
I remember my first time in the USA while attending school in Tennessee. I was telling some friends how much I love Formula One. One of the guys told me that they had something similar in Tennessee and that there was one that coming weekend. I was totally excited & was thinking that it was a F3 racing or close to that. I mean Formula One down there?
SO come that Sunday there I was trying to figure out NASCAR racing and the meaning of all the cars stickers and the crashing. IT took me a while to realize that this was the race instead of a pre race before the real F3 cars would come out.

->> As was said, Truth is a great documentary and certainly gives a lot of insight into what a 24 hour race has involved in it. I've shot the 24 several times now and its always a wonderful experience.
While the F1 photog tends to get the headlines (as far as motorsports photographers go), there are a lot of wonderful photographers shooting all kinds of motorsports out there, from sports cars in the US and other continents, to Touring Cars of various kinds, IRL and others.
Its a totally different mentality than shooting many other kinds of sports and the good ones really know how to look outside the normal shots and bring the viewer into the color and excitement of the sport, along with all that goes on behind the scenes. There is so much more than just what happens on track on raceday. |
