NPS question

->> A Canadian buddy of mine is currently working in Egypt. He tried to get a membership to NPS USA when he was back for break so that he could get some of his stuff worked on for priority service and cleaning. They told him (understandably) that since he was using a Canada address, he should go with NPS Canada. When he went for that, though, NPS Canada told him that he couldn't join with them since he'd purchased all of his equipment in the US.
Anybody else run into this? Is there an appeals process he can go through?

Thank you.

->> If he is a professional photographer he should be able to join NPS Canada. However, most manufacturers' warranties apply only to the country they are bought in (which is why you should look at buying regular and not gray market equipment as NPS or CPS in the U.S. will not work on the "international" warranty items).

So he could join but could not get service. It is a quandry but he is probably stuck since he lives in Canada but bought his gear elsewhere to save money (why I'm guessing he did it). By saving the money he lost out on in-country warranty service.

->> George I believe that Nikon has revised the policy on repairs for off shore purchases.

I believe that the policy is now that if a member is out of the US and makes a purchase at an authorized dealer AND has their sales documents NPS US will make repairs. I'm not sure how the $$$ end of it works for warranty repairs but the gear will be fixed.

So in a nut shell if you are on assignment in Japan and buy a D3 from a legit Nikon dealer and have all of your sales paperwork NPS here in the US will make the repair. If on the other hand the dealer is NOT an authorized dealer or the gear was out of channel they won't touch it.
