->> I will be heading West (young men and women) this coming Saturday to cover the Iowa/Arizona football game. I haven't shot there before, and I've checked The Guide info (hasn't been updated in 3 years) and what the Iowa SID provided with the credentials, but still have a few questions.
Any hints for shooting at Riddick? Is kneeling required when shooting from the back of either end zone? Is there a photo room, and if so, where is it located? Is WiFi available for use in the photo room? Is there secure gear storage, or if not is it OK to bring a roller onto the field?
The SID letter talks about "media rooms" like there are more than one.
Thanks again for any assistance. |

->> There is a photo room at Kinnick (not Riddick) in the northwest end zone. Enter the tunnel from the field and look for security sitting at a desk next to stairs on your right. Photographers in the past have not been allowed in the press box.
Parking (if you have a pass) was in Hospital Ramp 3, which is across the street from the northeast corner (opposite the hospital). Get there early, as parking can be limited and traffic is a nightmare. Last time I was there they did not have secure storage, but security does guard the room during the game. It's best to lock your laptop and gear up no matter where you are though. The room is safer than the field for sure. I don't remember there being wifi available, but it has been a couple years. Double check all this info with the SID - like I said it has been a few years.
Photographers on the field do kneel, and you are in front of fans, the band and cheerleaders in the end zones. The sidelines and end zones aren't too bad though. Space behind the players is tight, and traffic can get slow when running from end zone to end zone, as it's basically single file.
Kinnick is a fun place to shoot. The crowd is right on top of you, and it's always sold out.
Hope that helps. |
