Note that you won't get top speeds using a Firewire 800 reader, you'll need an ExpressCard adapter to break 75 MB/s. (Skip to the bottom of the linked article if you just want to see the speed charts.)
As far as SanDisk is concerned: the Extreme IV 45 MB/s cards are being replaced by the Extreme Pro 90 MB/s and the Extreme III 30 MB/s by the Extreme 60 MB/s. There have been rebates on the IIIs and IVs practically all summer long and this seems to explain why. (The rebates are still valid for purchases made in the next week in case anyone missed them.)
Based on the prices listed on SanDisk's website it looks like the new Extreme line will come in at the same price (not counting the rebate) as the old Extreme IV cards while being 15 MB/s faster. Not bad! |
