->> Anyone have good/bad experiences with Kingston 8gb Elite pro 133x or Sandisk 8gb Extreme III 30mb/sec compactflash cards. Is the speed difference noticeable? I am purchasing new compact flashcards for my D700 and D300, I have 1 of the Kingston Elite pro 133x and it seems to be slow when pushing the playback button to review the image. Any current deals going on? Thanks for you time.

Lexar 8GB 300x compact flash cards 109.95 with a $65 rebate making it $44.95 after the rebate. I just bought four of these earlier this year with this same promotion and you do get your money back pretty quickly... took me about six weeks.
The rebate runs until September 30, 2009 so you have two more weeks. I've never had a problem with Lexar cards and I'm going to knock on wood now for having said that, but I'm a big fan of their cards. |

->> Never had a problem like dataloss with the Kingston Elite 133x, but they were more current for the D2x/D200.
I use the Extreme III's in a D3, and it's super fast. If speed isn't a concern with long bursts, the Kingston Elite Pro would be fine. |

| ->> I also took advantage of the Lexar 8GB 300X and the $65 rebate arrived exactly eight weeks after I mailed it. The 300X makes a huge difference in write speed. I can continuously fire my D300 with no slowdown. I haven't tried just firing away until it stops, but during soccer matches I shot today, it wrote fast and furious. |

| ->> Sandisk just announced some new models so I don't know if the old models will be dropped in price to clear them out. May be worth keeping an eye on. |

->> Derek and Jeff, thanks for the info on the Lexar 300 cards. I like the price of those
Greg; Are the Extreme III cards alot faster than the Kingston Elites? I see BH Photo has the Extreme III 30mb/sec cards for $50 before rebate.
George, thanks for pointing out the info on the new Sandisk cards. Wow, these seem to be blazing fast at everything.
Still interested in any input that anyone has to offer. I am looking for a reliable and reasonably fast cards for shooting and downloading. I do understand that the firewire readers are faster at downloading the cards. |

| ->> In the D700/D300, yes, the Extreme III 30GB/sec and Lexar 300x cards will be noticeably faster than the Kingston 133x, and also on downloads if you are using a UDMA-enabled card reader. |

->> Thanks to all for your input and advice. I went with the Sandisk 8gb 30mb/sec cards. Wow they are quite faster than the Kingston. I will be looking into the faster cards for quicker downloads.

->> Efilm (8 gig).
So here is a quick story-
about a month ago someone started a thread about the epson p-4000 and other external hard drives. Robert so kindly chimed in and said he would invest in extra cards and not a external device. Glad I listened to him. I went to the store and bought the cheapest cards they had in stock and bought 10 eight gig cards.
On my trip I was unloading a card from the camera and it had been shot on for 2 days. It shot out of the camera and landed in a river. It took a second to react and a second to jump in the river and grab the card. I blew on it like an old nintendo game, and tried to dry it up best as I could. I marked the card so I would know which one went for the swim, when I got home.....and guess what. It downloaded fine, all file were there....nothing was lost. I threw the card in the trash....but it did its job.
I cant believe I am saying how great the efilm is. It's slow but it does the job-
thanks Robert!!! |
