Canon 5D Mark II vs. Canon 7D

->> I was ready to buy the 5D Mark II to upgrade from my 5D's when the announcement and specs were published for the new 7D which has left me wondering - is the 5D Mark II worth the extra $1000??
I've compared the specs, but maybe I'm missing something. The files are bigger with the 5D (only 3.5 more), but the fps is slower (3.9 vs. 8) and it seems they use the same image sensor so the quality would be identical. The 7D is full frame, has the self cleaning sensor, etc. but why would Canon release a camera so much cheaper that seems to out-do a more expensive model they still have on the market?
Is the 5D Mark II more rugged (like my Mark IIn)? They weigh almost the same so I'm really at a loss and while I know no one has them in hand yet can anyone tell me why I should spend the extra $1000????
Thank you in advance!

->> The 7d is not full frame it is a 1.6x crop.

->> Well, first and foremost the 7d is not full frame it is a 1.6 crop factor (APS-C), and thus not the same sensor.
Will the files be as good as the 5dMkII? I think you will have to wait and see. Though you can compare them here:

It all really depends how you use your camera, and what you expect from it. |

->> SAW A TEST SHOT TODAY PRINTED OUT FROM 7D DIRECTLY TO A CANON PRINTER. SHOT WITH THE NEW MACRO @6400 ISO & 2.8. THERE WAS A SLIGHT LOSS IN DETAIL. BUT AGAIN IT WAS SHAT IN JPG, MONOCHROME, WITHOUT IN CAMERA SHARPENING ETC. LOOKED GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME. BUT IT WILL NEVER HAVE THAT FULLFRAME DEPTH OF FIELD OR LACK THEREOF.

->> I just bought a 5D Mark II today and I'll also be getting the 7D. The Mark III just isn't cutting it for me so I hope the 7D can fill the gap until a new 1 series camera comes along. I've seen files from the 5D and I'm excited to get one.

->> I think the rule is, as long as what you've shat is monochromatic, you're healthy.
