NPS lens request

->> I've never requested a lens from Nikon before so I don't know how it works exactly. I emailed them my information based on the form they had sent me. It's been a day or so, not real long, but I haven't heard anything.
Is that normal? Do they let you know whether the request has been approved or not? I want to try and make other plans if necessary. |

->> The last time I borrowed (in the '90's) I called. Much faster response.

->> I've seen it take a day or so to get an e-mail response. The e-mail address goes to several mailboxes and I think sometimes everyone thinks someone else has responded. Calling works better if you've got time to wait on hold. I prefer the e-mail and will frequently re-send if I don't get a response in a day or so.

->> I believe that NPS is now an all-email system and doesn't accept phone requests for loaners. As with any bureaucracy, they'll either get back to you when they find time, or a FedEx truck will show up with the goods.

->> Thanks Dave, that was the conclusion I kinda figured was going to be the final answer. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I guess when you're getting something basically for free.......

->> Generally 24-72 hours to get a response. They've always told me whether or not the gear I was requesting was available.

->> When I requested a body from NPS (within the past year) I did it initially over the phone and then followed up with an e-mail. In order to get the goods from Nikon you need to have a personal UPS account (or your paper needs one), after making the request they will bill your account and send the lens out.

->> Took almost a week for a response to my last request last spring. Prior to that it had only been a day or two.

->> I think it depends on how busy they are.
Usually it's only been a day for me, but they'll send a note saying they received it and will get back to me soon.
Unfort. they have NO long glass right now as it's a busy season. |

->> It's not totally free... you pay for shipping + insurance both ways. Yes, still less than a new PC lens, but not free.
