Shooting RAW+jpg...and voice tags

->> This is a tough situation to explain clearly, but I need a little help so I'll try my best to make sense.
At our paper we shoot everything in large jpeg files. We archive the images that run in the paper as well as those that run in photo galleries. We then save our outtakes for possible use as file photos for future stories and such.
I get all of my caption information using the voice tagging on the camera. That way if anyone pulls up an outtake, it has all of the person's information attached to the file. Works great for them when I'm not in the office.
Sooo here is my problem. I am currently experimenting shooting RAW+jpeg. I'm still using voice tagging for my caption information. I'm working on the RAW image and then eventually saving a jpeg version to use in the paper. All of that is working out nicely.
The problem is that I want to save the jpegs for the outtakes because they take up less space. When I organize the folder by file type the voice tags seem to stay with the RAW files and not the jpegs which does me no good.
Is there a way to make the voice tag stay on the jpeg file instead of the RAW? When I get rid of the RAW files and then go back to look at the jpegs in Photomechanic, they are not linked to the files.
This is my first time shooting RAW, so I apologize if this is a stupid question...Thanks...Dan. |

->> You should be able to go into the source folder for all the RAWs, JPEGs and Sound Files on the memory card...then simply dupe all the sound files (.WAV or whatever) into the JPEG save folder after sifting the folder by filetype to get them all grouped together.
Only the sound files that match up with the JPEGs in the folder will play. These little soundblips are so small as to be negligible in the grand scheme of things that duping them all won't be a drain on overall storage. Make sense? |

->> Dan,
By any chance are you shooting the Nikon D3? If so, easy solution. If not, heed Jack's words. |

->> Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. I'm using Canon Mark IIN bodies. Jack...makes sense to me so I'll give that a try. Thanks a ton. Any other feedback is still very welcomed! Adios...Dan. |
