->> Anyone had experience of both? The D3 should 'snap' into focus, but how well does the D700 compare?

->> I can't speak for the D3, but my D700 (and my D300) both are super snappy.
Considering both cameras performed flawlessly while tracking motorcycle racing at Laguna Seca (see link below), I was very happy with my D700 (with the grip).
Though my older D2H was a sports workhorse, I've never missed a show with my D700 in terms of AF speed. I do hear that the D3 is slightly faster, but i think it's minimal.

->> D700 is very good, much better than the D300, which already was a nice camera.
I went from a D300 to a D700 as a my second body and couldn't be happier.
My D3 is of course still my go to choice, but I have no reservations with performance or IQ from the D700.
I feel like I got a second D3 for about half the price. Throw the grip on there and its a really nice second sports body with the nice advantage of being able to take the grip off to travel a bit smaller/lighter for other assignments or for hiking etc.
Only way they can make that camera better is to put a 24meg D3x sensor in it. |

->> I have both and honestly don't see much of difference between the two. I like the dual cards of the D3 and of course the slight fps increase, but to be honest I really don't think much about which one I grab. They are that close IQ wise. Now when I had the D300 and the D3, anything indoor or low light I had to go with the D3. I actually like the ability of the D700 to be able to use the popup flash as a commander to fire remotes strobes.

->> D700 is a ton better then the D300. D3 and D700 are the same. I have worked with both and have enjoyed both. If you can get the D3 get it.

->> The D3 and the D700 both focus super quick with great Af Tracking, the D3 is just a rock and the D700 is no slouch but if I had to choose I always pull out the D3, and the D300 is great also I strictly use for well lit situations.
