Latest Drobo Firmware update - Don't format those drives!

->> Applied the latest Drobo firmware update. v1.3.5 [1.252.21110]
After it was done I had to unplug my USB cord and reconnect for the Drobo volumes to mount. They mounted fine but a box popped-up saying somethink like "Your Drobo drive do not appear to be formatted, do you want to format them?"
Slowly and carefully I picked NO.
Everything appears to be fine on the volumes so I unmounted my two volumes, disconnected the cable and plugged it back in again. The volumes mounted fine with now scary box. So all is good.
Be careful folks and don't rush through this stuff and hit the wrong key. |

->> Baron,
Thanks for the heads up. Looking back on it, I got the same message but shrugged it off because I'd just finished formatting my new Drobo (my 2nd one).
Very glad I didn't apply the firmware to my old Drobo. Still moving files off that to my new one.

->> I did it and I didn't get that message!
I downloaded the Firmware, applied it and my DROBO just mounted back up after it rebooted!!
Just like the last time I updated my DROBO Firmware.

->> Thanks for the heads up as well, Baron.
After losing 1 TB worth of data due to a drive failure, then having to spend almost $1k in an effort to recover what was still there (was busy and procrastinated in backing up my data for a while), hard drive issues scare me. Seeing a message like that would have sent me into cardiac arrest.
Hope all is well in Puna!
Aloha,
Bruce |

->> Similar situation: I use the Photosafe II, and at one point I wanted to wipe the drive, so I did a format using Windows XP. The drive still was recognized, but the Photosafe would no longer copy the memory cards.
The solution was to format the drive in the old "FAT" file format. If you use Windows you can get the free software Swiss Army Knife (called Swissknife) that handles formatting into the older system. Fixed the drive and the cards read/copy just fine again. |

| ->> I did the firmware update and it only asked if I was ready to reboot the Drobo. Went through fine, no reformatting. |
