Laptop / SLR Messenger Bag?

->> Hey all,
I am looking for a new bag, something that I can carry a 15" MBP and a Nikon D700 w/ 24-70mm attached. I will be spending a few months in DC so I am looking for something discrete that doesn't look like it is holding a $1900 laptop and $3,800 camera/lens combo. I am sure that you can understand my concern.
Haven't seen anything from ThinkTank that necessarily satisfies my needs. Not sure if I like the Timbuk2 strap and how it hangs from your shoulder (I would prefer something that hangs similar to a briefcase).
This Tenba bag has caught my eye over the past couple of years:

Anyways let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Ryan Gibbons |

->> Russ,
No go. Don't get me wrong I love the Think Tank gear that I own, and I own a lot of it. The problem I find with the Urban Disguise is that it is still too "clean" looking and the material is still too stiff. I am looking for a lightweight bag with little to no padding that just molds to my side.
Thanks though,
Ryan |

| ->> One of the big Domke satchels could work, as could a backpack. I'd probably drag my Kelty Redwing 3100 out of the closet -- plenty of room for the laptop in a sleeve, the camera in one of those holster pouches and whatever else you might need or want to carry..... |

->> They are hard to find in stores and if you can wade through the crazy web site then Crumpler makes bike messenger-style bags that are waterproof and some have computer inserts.
You'll just look trendy, not camera-ish. |

| ->> I've been looking at one of those Tenba bags as well. I already have the Urban Disguise 50 and the Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home (which has no spot for a laptop). My one complaint about the Tenba bag (and I haven't seen the large version in person, just the small which is pretty big) is that it may not be wide enough to leave a body attached without having an awkward bulge in the bag. That kind of defeats the purpose. However, I really like the style and layout of the bag otherwise. |

->> I have a messenger bag made by Animal that I use for carrying lenses and a laptop on some jobs. Being designed for surfers they are also fairly waterproof. I am sure there is something in the range that would be suitable for your requirements.
Alternatively I would suggest looking around and seeing the kinds of bags being used by "normal" people and looking in shops for the ones that you find suitable. |

->> I was looking for a similar bag earlier this summer and finally settled on the Osprey Astro messenger bag. Osprey makes two sizes. The Astro is the smaller size and carries my 15" MBP and a DSLR w/ 50mm lens. I don't believe the Astro will fit your 25-70; but the larger size should work just fine.

I believe you can find them on sale at REI right now. |
