I recently had to the chance to talk with Reuters staff shooter Mike Segar about all angles of tennis photography at the US Open. The current Reuters workflow is pretty amazing to listen to.
Additionally, as you may or may not know, the US Open is one of the most amazing venues to make imagery of world-class athletes from the publicly accessible areas of the stadiums and field courts, even with a kit lens. You'll oftentimes see top 20 players in singles action on the field courts in the early days of the meet, and top-tier players in doubles action (and legendary seniors matches) throughout the tourney.
There's been so much chatter about access and exclusivity lately, and here's a totally different tack on the subject: A world-class sporting event where it is very possible for beginners to work on their photo skills with just their basic ticket.
If you've never been to a tennis Major, either on assignment or as a fan, it is something that really is to be experienced. |
