| ->> Okay so I've managed to get by until now. Anyone know where the cheapest place to get a copy of Photo Mechanics is? I've been using CS3 and creating my cutlines internal and It's time to speed things up. Thanks for any suggestions. |

->> The only place to get it is from CameraBits.
Of course the cheapest way is to download the trial and see if you like it. If it works for you then buy it. You get one year of upgrades and even after that your version will keep working, you just may miss out on features if you don't buy another license.
If you try it and don't like it then you can try some other things such as Bridge for putting captions on without having to fully open an image.
But over the years I've tried several programs and have found nothing that fits my workflow and style better than PM -- and I definitely haven't found any team of programmers who respond as quickly and keep track of trends and adapt as fast as CameraBits. |

| ->> Doing the trial thing now and I'll meet with fellow Tog Fred Greaves for lunch tomorrow and he's going to give me a sneak peak at his workflow plus show me the ropes as far as PM. I usually buy software through the Academic Super Store since I have to little ones in school. You can save a ton of money going through them but unfortunately they don't carry PM. I can see it's already going to shave a lot of time off my current workflow under deadline crunches. Thanks for the feedback. |

->> PM is by far the best for ingest, quick edit, rename, shrink file size for email and ftp. Also the fast response from Kirk about any questions or suggestions sets the bar for all software companies. The best bang for the buck of every program I own

No kidding! Some of the Photo Mechanic developers monitor this site. When I've had issues, they quickly respond with answers or help.
PM is so simple, but such a great workflow driver. I've tried and tried to use other software, but nothing else meets my personal or business needs. |

->> I crossed over from PC to Mac and while on the PC I used breezebrowser which was pretty good and did what I needed. I have been looking for something like that on the Mac for about a year now. I was turned on to PM and man I dropped that $150 so quickly to get that program running and to start using it.
PM for me is the best thing I have found, great software and customer service.
I have tried, Lightroom, Adobe Bridge, Iphoto, and aperture and none of them can do what I needed as fast as I needed it like PM.

| ->> So many people talk about how Adobe Lightroom has streamlined their workflow, or how they use Bridge, or ACDSee Pro 2.5, or David Cardinal and Moose Peterson's software... I have sunk money into all of them, and yet I always end up back to using Photo Mechanic. |

->> I use PM to ingest my images and tag...there is nothing faster that I have found, or easier.
I will then import into LR2 and either adjust or upload from there.
But PM is the Master of Ingest |

->> I think that Photo Mechanic is pretty cheap considering how much you will use in you daily work flow.
I bought a version about 7 years ago, they gave me free upgrades for like 5 years and I purchased an upgrade last year. So for close to a million photos that I have browsed through and over 50,000 images that I have processed and captioned, it cost me less than $200.00.
You could say that it cost me less than a penny per photo. Factor in the countless of hours it has saved me because it is faster than any other software, it is virtually free.
Even Photoshop which cost around $600.00 is pretty cheap using the same above metrics. I don't understand people who either complain about the cost of Photoshop or other software when so much of their income depends on it. |
