->> An interesting read that was just presented to me from my media director after my credential request was denied.

Another interesting article from John Harrington.

While the guy probably shouldn't have used the logos Johns mentions in his sales liturature I don't see what the big stink is about him contacting MLB teams. Its still a free market and he has every right to contact who ever he wishes to promote his services.

MLB teams refusing to credential USPW shooters because the USPW sales department wants to bid for their photo asset management needs just wouldn't make sense. Having a little competition in the wings works to MLB's benefit. Keeps Getty on their toes and working to keep the level of service up. Competition is good for the consumer and in this case MLB is the consumer.

Everyone seems to be of the opinion that Getty has some magical hold over all these leagues and teams. Its just a business arrangement. If Getty really is paying that much for the rights to images then I would think that MLB would be encouraging any potential competitor that might someday be willing to pay even more.

If USPW is a sinking ship then why not go after the customers like MLB? Can't hurt. Trying to save the ship by whatever means possible sounds a lot better than just sitting there doing nothing.
