->> If you read the blog in Flying with Fish about a cool insert for your Mountainsmith Tour or Day fanny pack
http://boardingarea.com/blogs/flyingwithfish/2009/08/17/if-fish-could-impro.../
The Mountainsmith people just told me it is coming out in January and will cost $29.
A pretty good deal and for sure beats using the Domke inserts so many of us use.

->> Eric,
I envisioned the insert many years ago having used a variety of inserts. When my Domke insert with velcro dividers died I switched to the Domke dividers that are not adjustable which was not the best option. While using an old chocolate brown canvas Domke F-2 divider I started designing an insert for the Tour & Day which I wanted.
I have happily been using the Mountainsmith KitCube in my Tour for over a week now (after months of anticipation of its delivery. In the Tour I find it very flexible for a variety of set ups. The Kit Cube in the Day is just as flexible while allowing me to still stuff a 13" MacBook into the pack. |

->> Louis,
It was not a matter of Mountainsmith 'catching up.' When I started speaking with Mountainsmith after writing up a five-part series on how I use The Tour it became apparent that the company was unaware of the extent photographers were using the Tour & the Day. Once they became aware that photogs were extensively using these packs they started to immediately explore options to improve the packs for photogs without altering the pack at all.
Come January I think there will be a lot of happy photogs with the Kit Cube...I know I love it (but I may be biased). |

->> Good points Steven
Mountiansmith is sending me a kit cube to test out with my stills and video gear next week and give them my impressions, etc Just from what I read on your blog and the pics I'm excited to try it. My Domke inserts are all flimsy, mangled and not useful in the Tour and Day.

->> Thanks for the update Eric.
I've been dying to get my hands on one of these to use for fall field sports since I heard of it.
Now I'm a bit disapointed it won't be out until January.
January is indoor season here in Michigan, and I usually just roll a bigger bag since I'm not out on a field, so I won't have as much use for this in January as I would right now. |

->> Hi Scott, I've been using the Kit Cube for a week now. I plan on shooting it and writing a review of it in a few weeks.
I see you're in Rochester Hills. If your at Lions or Michigan games in the next few weeks let me know and you can check it out. |

->> Brad,
I have written up Mountainsmith's Tour bag extensively (long before Mountainsmith knew who I was and I knew anyone at thier company). If you go to www.flyingwithfish.com and search "Mountainsmith Tour" you can find a 5 part series I wrote the bag over the course of a week back in January 2008 (starting on 15-January-2008). |
