| ->> I was coincidentally going to upgrade my Photoshop along with the OS, but now it seems that I HAVE to. So long CS2. (yea, it needed to happen anyway) |

->> Note that they don't say it won't work with Snow Leopard. Just that they have not done extensive tests and that if you have a problem they won't support it.
I know it's semantics but since Snow Leopard is more of an update to the current OS than a full overhaul, most programs will probably continue to work fairly normal with it.
Since Adobe is moving away from support for older Systems and CS4 has been out for a while, it's not a surprise they are not going back to update older code for newer OS.
I had something similar a while back when asking Adobe if CS4 could be stalled on a machine running Windows Server software. They said that it would probably install and it would run, but they wouldn't guarantee all functions and they would not provide any support to make it work if there were problems. |

| ->> It's been Adobe's mode of operation since they synchronized release of the products in their suites. They are really trying to avoid ".5" releases across all products. |

->> Did anybody else answer the survey Adobe did a month or so ago? It kind of sounded like they're thinking of moving to a subscription model (kind of like how PhotoMechanic does it). So if you buy a year's subscription you'll get every latest version within the year of your subscription. Kind of means that you'd get two whole versions if Adobe does a major point upgrade each year.
I ended the survey saying I 'might' be open to a subscription model if it's reasonably priced but that CS3 would be my last purchase of Photoshop since they embargo RAW import filters unless you upgrade.
I'm trying hard to switch my workflow to Aperture. At least they have given me free upgrades to every new RAW format coming out. |

| ->> FWIW, one of my friends tried it on a machine he's already upgraded and he says it still works (Photoshop and Illustrator at least; he has the web version of CS3 so no InDesign). |

| ->> I read an article somewhere that CS5 wil not work with any of the old mac stuff anymore. Only with the newer intel based stuff. |

->> Slightly off the CS3 and Snow Leopard, but Christopher brought up 5D MII raw file issue or for that matter any newer camera's RAW files working with older versions of Photoshop.
I use a work-around for working on 5D Mii raw files in CS3 although it adds an extra step. I use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert the RAW to DNG (Adobe's format of RAW files) saving them in a new folder. Then open those with the Adobe Raw in CS3. Seems to work fine. Adobe is touting DNG as a universal standard RAW format, who knows if it will stick around, hence making sure I save the out of the camera raw files as well.
Find the dng converter here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4519

->> You could always wait until Adobe releases CS5 next year @_0

18 months would put the release in April 2010.

Okay, good. And then Shantanu, on the product cycles, is there anything that’s changed in how you think about the gap between your product cycles? I know you don’t want to get on to a discussion of CS5 just yet but I think historically you have talked about an 18 to 24 month gap. Given where you are with CS4 right now in terms of penetration, is there any changes to your thinking in terms of elongating the cycle or you know, the flip-side, maybe shortening to get back out again with a new kind of brand and new awareness as the economy starts to recover?
Shantanu Narayen
No, Sarah, I mean, as it relates to the cadence of our product cycles, we have a machine within the company in terms of how we drive innovation and so the focus for those folks continues to be to drive to the cycle that we talked about, namely 18 to 24 months. Much quicker than that and our customers have told us that it’s harder for them to adopt every single cycle, and much later than that I think we allow other competitors to come into the particular marketplace.
