Problems Burning DVD for PC & MAC
Mike Burley, Photographer

->> When burning in Toast 6 Titanium on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.5.8, the DVD (full of jpegs) works great. I burn, verify, mount. Done. After removing it from my mac, and reinserting it, to double check, I put it in an old Toshiba running XP, just to check for compatibility. Everything works great, and no problems....

Well, me being really paranoid, I triple check to make sure it works again in my mac, and after 3 DVDs, NONE of them work on the final attempt on a Mac. Every time, the disk just spins and wont mount to my mac's desktop. Im checking the box for Mac + PC compatibility on Toast's setup. What gives?! Is the PC changing the compatibility somehow?

Thanks!

->> Mike what DVD standard (DVD+R or DVD-R) are you burning to. Some older drives are unable to recognize the DVD+R standard. So check that first

I just plugged in my Sony external DVD burner, and it read the disk no problem. Looks like my new Macbook Pro's drive is a little buggy. Just weird that it worked on several occasions with the same disc until I put it in a PC, 3 discs in a row.

The discs were TDK 16x (white printable) if that matters.

->> One thing that you always should avoid is to burn disks at maximum speed.

It might sounds strange.
But if you lower burn speed it increases the chance that the disk works in different readers.
This goes for both CD:s and DVD:s

->> Or...and this would suck...you have become a victim to THE biggest weakness of the Macbook Pro - the optical drive. The are notorious for going bad. I can't burn DVDs at all right now.

Good luck.

->> I was going to post on this as well.

When I burn on a Mac, the DVD itself is not readable on a PC. It is like the DVD does not even exist.

Any suggestions?
