Replacement for Digital Camera Battery

->> I am thinking of replacing my DCB with the Quantum Turbo SC. I am looking for a reasonably small and light battery. Does anyone have experience with the SC?

->> I don't have the SC (believe it's pretty new) but have had a Turbo 2x2 for a few years, and it's worked great powering my flash for night HS football games, and also powering an off-camera flash where needed (where I couldn't find AC power for my strobes, for example, and had to use battery-powered "speedlights").

I've also used it to shoot corporate events and the thing powered my flash for well over 1,000 shots before it ran out of power.

I believe the SC was Quantum's answer to the "why do these external batteries have to be so heavy?" question, but I'm not sure how its light weight impacts battery life.

->> Oh, and back when I was shooting a 20D as my main camera, the Turbo 2x2 not only powered my flash, but also my 20D, and it hung in there for typically an entire HS football game, and around 500 shots (even in cold weather, where the 20D's internal batteries would never make the entire game).

->> I'm just curious... is DCB still in business? We had a thread on here a year or so ago about their apparent shutdown (at least temporarily). Their website is up and running but it hasn't undergone any significant changes for the better part of a decade.

->> Good question...I've been trying to contact them for months. No reply to emails and the phone number on the website nobody answers. I assume they are OOB. Again.

I have a DCB that needs to be refurb'd...I guess I'll have to DIY-it.

->> I have the SC. It's small and light. Won't last as long as the Turbo, but the difference is minimal (400 full power pops vs 500 with the Turbo) relative to the weight (15oz vs 39oz). Recycle time is 1.4s vs 1, which is substantial if you are doing a lot of full power pops. I don't so it really isn't a big deal.

It's slightly too big to be easily pocketable, but it's got a clip and hangs outside of the pocket very well (like a really big beeper).

Any other questions, feel free to contact me.

Max
