->> I've shot a number recently but I'm not sure exactly what it is your asking. Are you simply looking for ideas of things to shoot ? Or inquiring if images aren't good as previous years due to reduced attendance due to economic conditions etc ?
For me it really depends on if I'm shooting for an editorial assignment or simply doing some images for pleasure as well.
One assignment I had was on the crazy fair foods such as deep fried ______ (fill in the blank) and people enjoying them. Interesting story and the vendors were all really receptive to it which was great. Lots of "characters" working some of those booths to put it mildly. |

->> Seriously, whoever marked "huh" either step forward or at least have the balls to email me.
What exactly is so "huh" about my post ???
I'm not sure what the OP is looking for exactly and asked him to clarify.
Additionally I put forth a suggestion of a recent assignment I had in the event it might give him an idea, if he is in fact simply looking for suggestions. |

->> We have the Clay County Fair in about 22 days. This isn't just another county fair, it's nine days and 300,000 people - which makes it bigger than some state fairs. It has the most area devoted to ag equipment of any fair anywhere in the U.S. - that means suppliers show up - with check books.
I'm usually assigned to shoot evening entertainment which so far includes Trace Atkins, Heart, Bill Engvall, the World of Outlaws, Franc D’Ambrosio and some other entertainment. Hopefully I'll get a chance to just wander around and shoot features as well. |

->> Jeff,
All I wanted was to see how many people have recently been shooting images at their local fair, and I thought it might be interesting to see what images everyone comes away with from the various events.
The reason for the thread was that I just posted an update with images from the Missouri State Fair.

->> Here's some from two years ago.. My duties as a caregiver have really limited my ability to shoot anything of note. I caught a break one night and decided to test out the 17-40 Canon EF lens I'd just received. Just a personal shoot...
You have to excuse the Picasa site.. I'm new to all the online web postings.
As always, if you have any C&C, please feel free to share.

->> I personally haven't shot any fairs myself. However, I do feel that it would be really fun to use a really wide angle lens and less than normal points of view. Thus accentuating the colors and lights that can be seen everywhere, for the viewer. Nic I really like the second image that you posted.

->> Fairs at night are the place to be! Long exposures on the midway at night always look cool. experimenting with mixed lighting and ALL THOSE LIGHTS. Pack light (weight wise) though or bring some friends, nighttime is the busiest time and the trouble makers and thieves come out.
Ask kids what they like about the fair and try to capture their point of view. |

->> I don't look forward to the Boone County (Ill.) Fair as much as I used to... everything starts to look the same after four or five days a week, year after year.
Just for something different I started actively looking for silhouettes and backlit situations... I have a few of those photos on my member page. I was pleased that the paper some of these... this is turning into a personal project now. |

->> Just updated my members page with a few photos from the Kentucky State Fair here in Louisville.
Had a great night. Weather was perfect, went late so the crowds were thin. Didn't want to lug a bunch of gear around while enjoying the fair with my better half, so I just took the D3 and a 35/f2. No flash, no tripod. Was fun thinking simple. Came away with a few fun images, ate a lot of great junky state fair food. Rode a few rides. A real pleasant evening. |
