Gearing up for football

->> I'm flying with the university president and team doctors to Abilene, Texas, next week for our first football game of the season. It's a big deal for us since this game will be broadcasted on a CBS sports channel.
What's your list of non-camera equipment that you use exclusively for football? I'm planning to pull out my sports gear to check all the batteries, knee pads, sun screen and rain gear.
Let's hear some opinions on must-haves for football season. |

->> Gear used EXCLUSIVELY for football?
knee pads and an old pair of sneakers ( hate to get the newer ones muddy or get those little rubber nubs from the artificial turf stuck in them)
Other than that, nothing I have is exclusive to football. |

->> Kanuna thanks for posting these links again! I just read your article from 2003 and saw the great tip for knee wear for covering football games.
I hate to say I have been using the "skateboarder" ones for a few years now and I have never really liked the way they felt. I just ordered the Patella 1002 model as you suggested and I can't wait to get them!
I'm headed out on the road Saturday for the next three weeks to cover some big high school football events - at Mackay Stadium in Reno, at Ohio State, and at the new Cowboys Stadium so these should work well for those sites! |

->> Thanks for all the links...I remember reading Francis Gardler's article a few days before shooting my first football game in '05. Kind of funny, as it seems just like yesterday....Heck, I was in 8th grade when that last article/link was written.
Along with some other folks here, I don't use anything exclusively for football, but I do run a rig similar to this (only with 1 flash!!!) http://www.sportsshooter.com/richobrey/twoflash/pages/1.html when shooting on one field in the boonies outside of Austin. |

| ->> Here's a tip. Go to your local Big Lots! store and check the tool section. Yesterday I found a pair of AWP gel pro flooring knee pads for $7. They are the exact same kind I bought at Lowe's a couple of years ago for nearly $40. |
