Canon G11

The G11 replaces the G10's 14.7MP sensor with what it describes as a high sensitivity 10 MP CCD though it still uses the same 28-140mm equivalent stabilized lens.

->> If the better sensor turns out to really be 'better', then that feature along with the higher speed sync and better image processor will be quite welcome.

But...I just bought a G10. I guess I won't get the wife to sign-off on a G11 this go 'round.

G11, still
no intervalometer
Stick with the G10

->> I see that flip-out screen as something that would be easily broken if mishandled. I'll happily stick with my G10- and would likely opt for the G10 over the G11 even if I were buying one today.

->> Hey my old G2 has the flip-out screen and has been with me on many outdoor adventures like mountain biking without one glitch. I even let my young AFTERS students (4th, 5th & 6th graders) use the camera and they have been unable to destroy it.

I'm going to seriously look at the G11 as a new P&S to carry around.

->> I just picked up my G10 over the weekend. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw the post title. Still happy though. If the g11 came with an intervalometer I would have lost it.

->> We used a G1 years ago. I now own a G9. There's no comparison.

The G9 died recently. The repair was $160, which is a pretty good down payment towards a new G-series camera. I use the camera a lot since those photos don't have to go through a professional workflow. I can leave them in the camera and download when convenient.

->> The only problem I have with these cameras, is they lost the wide-angle capability which I need, and instead provide lots of telephoto capability which to me is useless. If my memory is correct, one of the older models was designed to provide wide-angle.

I had a chance to work with the G10 for a while. I liked it more than my own P&S (Canon SD 870 IS), and if it weren't for this limitation, I'd probably already own one by now.

->> I think that, from my point of view, Canon have been listening to professional photographers. The added lower light capablities should be a major improvement on the already excellent G9 and G10. I've had G1, G2, G5, G6 and G9 in the past and each one has been better than the last.

I also welcome the return of the flip out screen - makes the camera more useful for covert pictures as well as allowing you to keep the screen clean for longer.

Looking forward to seeing high ISO files soon...

Neil
