Old friend gets joint replacement

->> The old friend is my Slik Pro ball head, which I have used for 20 years for everything, including view camera work (back in the day). Age has taken its toll and I found that no amount of gorrilla force on that clanky chrome handle would get it suitably tight any more. So I took it to a machine shop and they refaced the correct angle on the face of the tightening bolt AND applied a hardening process to it. Now it sits proudly on top of my 500 series ancient Gitzo and will hold the 400 2.8 firmly in any position I desire. And no rehab time is required.
The machinist did, however, decline to do a similar procedure on my lower back and knees. |

->> Phil,
They don't make 'em anymore...This ball head has quite a devoted following, however.
