->> I agree. Matt, is a great photographer and also a great story teller. His work never ceases to amaze me. If you are just casually making your way through the message board STOP. Go back to the homepage and read through Matt't featured story. This is good journalism. Kudos to Sportsshooter.com for highlighting this when a newspaper was scared because the "publisher of a large newspaper—where this story was to have run—has, based upon a three-sentence synopsis, deemed her story "depressing," certain to further the exodus of precious advertisers from the Sunday magazine. Advertisers want happier stories, the publisher explains."
It really is no wonder some papers are in trouble. The very stories that would draw people in whether because it is local or empathetic journalism are the very stories they refuse to run, spending days on end dealing with entertainment news that is meaningless.
Matt and Sportsshooter thanks again for sharing this— a true example of what the right mix of text and photos is really like.

What was that some folks were saying about photojournalism dying?

->> Wow
Wow
Wow

It's been a long time since I've been pulled into a story like that and actually didn't feel the need to stop to look for the photos to help illustrate the story.

Some great photos enhance some great writing. I think this could be called 'a story with photos' rather than the standard 'photo story'. Nuttin' wrong with that!

Powerful stuff Matt.
Thank you for sharing this story in such a classy and honest way.

->> Matt--

Very well done, words and photos. Provocative and emotional, but not sappy, it is something I won't soon forget.

As previously mentioned, once I started, I couldn't stop until I reached the end.

->> I have known Matt for many yrs and his stories and photos are like pieces of jewel to jolt us, get us crying and laughing and leave us in a pensive state.

His narrative carries us as if we were his 3rd eye from the very first moment he clicked the shutter.

Matt thanks for sharing this and so many other powerful stories with us.
Lu is truly a remarkable & inspirational woman.

->> This issue of the Sports Shooter Newsletter was about a month in creation. I wanted to have Matt's story on Lindsay featured but also wanted to have several other stories to have around it to carry through a sort of "theme" I had envisioned for this special issue.

My idea for the underlying theme: Good, solid, professional journalism is alive and well and there are many of us out there that still have that fire and desire despite all that is going on in this business.

Thanks also to Hannah, Adam, Rick and Ron for contributing to this issue of Sports Shooter.

And thanks to Brad for getting it all together for the web.

'Nuff Said!
