Looking for good travel case for lighting gear

->> Hi Guys,
I am looking for a good travel/flight case for some lighting gear. Mainly a pair of Profoto 600Rs and power cables. It would be ideal if there was a rolling case that could be taken as carry-on...would be nice to keep them with me just in case. Even a backpack would be cool. But I'm not opposed to a larger case that has to be checked-in if that's what is recommended.
Wondering what other members use. Would any of the ThinkTank bags would work? Or how about some Pelican rollers? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! |

->> Hey Christian!
Hope you're doing well...for the cases, check out Lightware...soft sided cases but very strong. I've seen everything from power packs to long glass shipped in them.
Good luck! |

| ->> Check out the range by Kata (www.kata-bags.com). I have two and they've survived domestic and international flights. |

| ->> I second Brian's recommendation. Tenba's travel cases are very tough. I have a couple, with wheels, and they travel well. I don't worry about checking them or shipping via Fed Ex. |

->> good thread. I've been looking for a bag that would hold a pair of 42" (collapsed) stands, 2 alien bee heads, 2 11" reflectors, 2 50' extension cords, the pocket wizards and trip cords. Room for a couple umbrellas would be good too.
Sounds easy till you hear that I don't want the case to cost more than the gear it holds. |

| ->> I've always been a fan of Pelican cases. Sure, they're heavy, but they're all but bulletproof. I've beat the tar out of them- and they look even better after a little abuse! |

->> Thanks a bunch guys! Doing some research on all of the suggestions.
It seems most of these are to be checked-in...or can these be taken as carry-on? Such as the Tenba?
I think a local shop has the Lightwares, so I will try and pass by to check them out them in person. |

->> I use Think Tank Airport Rollers for all my lighting rigs.
http://thinktankphoto.com/ttp_products.html?g=rollers
I use the smaller Airport International Roller for my Profoto 600 one-head kit and an Airport Security Roller for my Acute 1200 three-head kit.
If you're planning to cary two Profoto 600 packs and heads, I'd definitely go with the larger roller....I had no problem fitting it carry-on on a regional jet last week.

| ->> Tenba air cases. I also know that Tamrac makes some pretty sturdy rolling cases as well that are able to fit light stands and other accessories. |

->> Thanks again guys. Appreciate all the great suggestions, as well as the Lightware/Kata debate :) I have a lot of options here which was what I was looking for. I have decided to get a rolling case as it would make more sense to carry light stands and some modifiers/accessories. Don't want to have to lift such a case. Will try and checkout the Lightware offerings in person. I have a Kata bag which I love so will also consider what they have if I can find them locally.
If I can sell off some photo backpacks in my closet I might splurge and get the TTP Airport Security for a lighter setup as well. Looks pretty functional and I see them used all the time here. Thanks Robert for confirming a Profoto 600 would fit with room to spare. |
