Slightly OT: Camera sans the photographer

->> Just saw this on dpreview.com:

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0908/09080600sonypartyshot.asp

It's called the party shot, it has a little turning platform, and uses face and smile detection to locate and track subjects to take pictures. Yeah that's right: don't take your own party pictures anymore, let the camera do it for you. Though to be honest, for a party, I could actually see that being a lot of fun. You know, the morning after.

Not to mention, this would probably equate to far more candid shots than usually turn out of party pictures.

->> The not so fun aspect of this is that this technology is already being used in surveillance and steadily whittling away at your rights to privacy. :)

->> I find this interesting - I am currently doing an internship with the Gigapan Camera System, and it seems to do the same sort of thing - not with panoramic pictures but with smiles.

It's amazing how much similar it is, and that Sony has been able to mass produce it like this. A small tweak in the technology and this could probably do large-scale panoramic pictures too.
