William, how'd you know the geese were Canadian? "Honk, eh"? The common name of branta canadensis is "Canada Goose" - much like our friend the Muscovy Duck isn't called "MuscoVITE Duck". :)

->> Muscovy Duck fer' sure! Raised them as a kid.
We raised one from that looked just like your photo named "Lucky Duck". The reason he got that name was because of the way he was hatched. We had one duck that would sneak off and and lay 5 or 6 eggs at a time and sit on them for months and they would never hatch, so when we would find her nest we would toss all the eggs over into the compost heap. Well about 4 days after finding her most recent nest, I see my dog digging in the compost heap, I yell at her to get away, the dog picks up something from the heap, comes to me an drops it at my feat. It was a newly hatched duckling! We rapidly bonded as his parents and he was our buddy for a long time.

When I see photos like yours, I realize I still have a soft spot for him.

I did some research on the duck and they have a strong-tasting meat. Comparable to roast beef. I'm getting hungry now.
