Time to Job Hunt?
Blaine McCartney, Photographer
Columbus | NE | USA | Posted: 5:18 PM on 08.05.09
->> We've had a few layoffs recently and just yesterday, our publisher is now stepping down at our small daily. I haven't been too serious in looking to move on at the moment, but the latest news here is making me uneasy. Should I start getting serious about moving on, knowing the job market sucks, or just sit tight and weather the economic storm? What would you do?

->> Worst thing is to be caught off guard. Get your resume/portfolio updated now so you don't have to spend time on it later. Start looking at availabilities and keep your ears open.

->> Each time I have mentioned this in the past, nobody wants to take it seriously. If you want to stay in this business, you better learn at least one or two other jobs in the newsroom. Your marketability will rise. If you are just a photographer, chances are a reporter and point and shoot will replace you in the near future, especially at a small daily.
