College Photo Students - A Question about Strobes

->> Hello everyone! I'm doing a bit of research on the kind of strobe equipment, both studio and location that photography programs at various colleges around the country have.
So that's the question, what kind of strobes do you have at school? Do you have a favorite brand that you use if you have a lot of choices? If so, what do you like about it? Feel free to post here or send me a message.
I've always received great feedback from the SS community so I know I will get some good information on these forums.
Thanks

->> At Mizzou, we are not a big studio school mind you, but we have Speedotron packs in the studio. I believe some are even the blackline models one is 2400 w/s. We went with those years ago because of the amount of use they get, they go for repairs every year or so, but are still running well after many years of use.
We also have Nikon SB-900 and SB-800 speedlights for location, as well as some Norman stuff. |

->> Does 25 years ago count? Speedotron Brown that looked like they had been there 25 years before me. But they worked 100% and could be counted on.
Solid build and quality for portrait and general studio use.
Wow 1/4 century ::::sniff:::: |

| ->> We don't really use them much at Point Park (the program isn't very big on studio photography) - but when I went to art school before at the Antonelli Institute, we used Alien Bees. |

| ->> If I remember correctly, Western Kentucky has a bunch of Elinchromes for their studio. The publications have a few white lightnings and strobe-wise have Canon 580s and some older 550s. I believe there is also a pool of Nikon strobes, but I can't remember which ones. |

| ->> Here at Wilmington University we have a mess of Photogenic Strobes for studio work, they actually work great for portrait work. We also have a portable Speedotron kit that gets used, depending on the situation. |

| ->> At San Francisco State we had Dynalites, Sb80s and 580IIs. However a friend of mine turned me on to Profoto. I like output control/power, size and portability of the profoto system much more than the dyanlates. We also had a lot of issues with people going to pull speed rings off the dynalites and having the expensive flash tube come with it and break, not fun... |
