Other sports employees being asked to work for access

->> This story absolutely blew my mind. I've generally held respect for this team, but I may stop covering them altogether after what they just pulled.

Fred Costello, the local organist who has worked both the local baseball and hockey games for over 30 years, was let go by the hockey team today. From the article:

"The Brighton resident said he was told by a person who works in production for the Amerks after trying several times to learn his fate from team president Lewis Staats.

'The guy said the Amerks were willing to work something out if I would work for trade,' Costello said today. 'I don’t work for tickets. I’m a professional.'"

----------
At the next baseball game, I may very well approach him and shake his had for standing up to such ludicrous terms. Someone's worked for you for 30 years, and you offer to give them a few bucks' worth of tickets instead of a paycheck? Whoever came up with that should be ashamed of himself.

->> And of course, that second to last line should have said "shake his hand" - that's what I get for pulling the trigger too early on the "submit" button.

To add to your post, I've heard on the local radio sports show, that the previous owners gave away a lot of 'comp' tickets to games, just to fill the seats (or sell concessions) and the new owner doesn't subscribe as much to that philosophy, rather, he prefers to sell tickets.
