->> I am moving to a new house next week and I am finally ready to trash this crappy computer desk.
I am looking for something with a lot of room for my MAC Pro, 24 inch flat screen, DROBO's, Epson R2400 printer and various other things us photographers have lying around the office desk.
I've been searching the internet but can't seem to find one I like. I thought I'd drop a message here and see if someone has one that they really like and works well for a photographer.
Thanks. |

->> I've been very happy with an IKEA closeout dining room table as a desk. With the leaf installed it's 78" wide by 36" deep. The legs are resting on sanded down 2x4s to give me an extra inch-and-a-half of height....
Sometimes nothing beats square footage -- especially when it only cost ~ $125....
If I had a larger office and could run a second one at right angles, I would.... |

->> Tom,
I was in the space situation last year and went with the IKEA Galant system of worksurfaces.

I have the corner desk with an extension on one end and two computer hangers. I also have a plain 60X30 work surface.
These can be configured in 1000's of ways.

->> It doesn't work with every design style but I use two nicely kept black saw horses to support a nice, very large slab of wood.
The saw horses support speakers, or a scanner and a laser printer, etc.. quite nicely helping to save space on top of the desk. |

->> After shopping around today, I am leaning towards 3 Ikea dining room
tables and building work spaces around them. I never would have thought
about that! I'm checking out the Galant also.
Thanks! |

| ->> I built my own desk. It's similar to the Galant, but it's not as nice. One thing I don't like is how cords persist. If you can come up with an easy way to stow your cables, that would be ideal. I also like pencil drawers, but recommend not putting them in the position you intend to sit. They can kill your knee. |

->> Though they're more pricey than the other suggestions, I'd suggest taking a look at furniture from Anthro. I purchased a new workstation (the Adjusta 48" unit) along with a side table to use as a desk and I'm VERY satisfied.
The Anthro ads with people standing on top of their products aren't an exaggeration, the desks I have are built like tanks, with actual thick laminated counter top material for the work surfaces (no particle board). The units I have also came standard with nice wheels, making accessing the back of units to swap cables, etc. really easy.

->> I'm at IKEA now ... and purchased the largest Galant they sell and added some accessories to it. It looks perfect for my needs.
I appreciate all the excellent suggestions! |

| ->> Totally jealous! I live in rural Missouri. The closest IKEA is in Chicago, I think. |
