15" 2.5ghz MBP battery replacement
Andrew Nelles, Photographer

->> The battery on my 15" 2.5ghz MacBook Pro (mid-2008) has rapidly taken a turn for the worse, and only 34 days after the warranty expired, figures. Calibrating it by discharging/charging doesn't seem to help in any significant way anymore.

To the point, I'm going to order a replacement, a second bat would be nice anyway. I was wondering if the Apple battery is the best bet, or if any of the 3rd party bat's are worthwhile. I'm seeing a lot with advertised greater capacity, but have seen mixed reviews on their quality. Anyone have some first hand experience?

Thanks!

->> I have used aftermarket batteries on models other than yours and, in my experience, they did not last as long. The difference was not huge but noticeable.

->> Andrew, stick to the Apple brand. May cost more in the beginning but the savings come in later.

->> Although it wasn't covered under my Applecare I was able to talk Apple into replacing my battery for free. They asked what the capacity was and since it was below a certain threshold they swapped for a new one.

I'd check to make sure it wasn't one of the recalled batteries by Apple, then I'd try to complain and see if they can swap one for you. I swear the new battery is much better than the original, even when it was new.

I think it also helped that I complained about having to send in my MBP in twice for a logicboard swap due to the faulty Graphics Processing Unit.

->> Sorry to hear that. Same thing happened to me but I have the extended warranty and they're fixing it with no questions asked.

My power cord is coming apart too and they're giving me a new one, no problem.
