->> I got to meet and photograph Buzz Aldrin last week in the lead-up to the 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 landing and thought it was pretty cool personally.
I also got the spend some time with one of the engineers who ran the LEM simulator and helped train all the astronauts to land on the moon. He isn't famous but was an important behind-the-scenes guy who had some great stories about the Apollo program and that made it just as cool.
I know that wasn't a Top 5 but those two are still fresh in my mind. |

Corydon | IN | USA | Posted: 11:23 AM on 07.24.09 |
->> Just the first ones that popped out of my head ...
Bill Clinton -- I'd photographed him several times while he was in office, but last year he came to the small town of Corydon to stump for his wife. The event was probably the biggest thing(or things) to hit Corydon since Dolly Parton performed at the Harrison County Fair many moons ago ...
Mikhail Gorbechev -- Former ruler of the USSR and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Very few people who have inhabited this planet could be called "world changers," but he's definitely one of them.
Ann and Nancy Wilson (Heart) -- They were a "bucket list" group of mine after they pretty much got this teenage boy's hormones a'raging back in the 80s.
Gene Kranz -- Former NASA flight director. Thanks to Hollywood, people probably know him best for something he never said ("Failure is not an option") during the Apollo 13 crisis. If there were more balls-to-the-wall, no-nonsense guys like Gene Kranz in this country, it'd be a lot better place. If you ever get the chance to hear this man speak, run, don't walk and DO IT. He's amazing.
Edwin Moses -- If you don't know who he is, shame on you. Go to wiki and take care of that. Today we live in an era where athletes want to take a pill or jam a needle in their arm to get better performance. Moses studied the science of running, as well as eating, to gain an edge on his opponents. He's another one to go hear speak if you ever get the chance.
Great thread, BTW. |
