You are really asking for a serious neck injury unless you have some overdeveloped neck muscles like those of pro football players or wrestlers. As some said on the comments said you would be way better off getting the kind of rig skydivers use.

->> I'm with you, Chuck. I don't think even NFL-grade neck protection would help you with that one. You're talking about three pounds of hardware on a moment arm a foot or so from your spine. It makes your entire head into one big torque wrench with a lot of inertial mass at the far end. The force your neck would get with any impact at the far end would cripple/kill you pretty easily. You could probably get a decent injury just clipping a door frame at a brisk walk.
