| ->> Very nice photos. It's too bad the camera man had to be in the middle of #15. It's also too bad the tv cameras always seem to be in the middle of great shots. Don't they have a zoom lens on them? |

(of course he always has behind the scenes access) |

| ->> Matt B. - Only one or two? Boy, you have some tough expectations. "Behind the scenes" typically means stuff the general public doesn't see. While I agree the images of the president on the field aren't really behind the scenes photos, about 11-12 images certainly aren't public access. Not sure what your standards are for a true "behind the scenes" photograph, but I for one don't really need to see a Presidential dump. |

| ->> Bradly, Yes I have very very high expectations, ask anyone during the SSA workshops or photo judging I have done. TV was all over the place, MLB was leading him around, it is very tough to get true behind the scenes photo from something like that. Look at them a week or month later and it will just be a President being lead around and MLB players laugh. I did the same thing with Bush in 2001 during the College World Series. It was hard to keep people from getting into a shot and flat out killing the photo. It was very control by ESPN at the time. I was not dumping on David at all, I respect his work very much. |

->> Matt B. - I guess I'm confused. Is the criteria you mentioned a game-breaker for what you consider a "true behind the scenes photo?" Is the fact that TV cameras were present or that the president had handlers leading him around kill it for you? What about David? Was he "killing the photo" for the TV guys who had equal "behind the scenes" access?
Again, at least to me, "behind the scenes" is typically stuff that the general public attending the event doesn't see, and I think David's photos qualify. I suppose we could sit here and hash out semantics of the proper qualifiers of such images, but I personally think you're nit-picking here. Yes, in a week or a month these images will be just a few more photos of the president, but it doesn't change the fact that David was granted access that a vast majority didn't have. |

->> Matthew,
seems photographers do this all the time and it comes down to one thing in my opinion-jealously.
What makes David Bergman stand out to me is not only his great images, but he is one of the most talented photographers I have EVER met who is so approachable, doesn't talk down his nose to ANYONE and is there to help out anyone who asks. Instead of having this "holier than thou" attitude like so many of our counterparts, he is warm and friendly. Then, when you look into his background and see the images he creates and how many Sports Illustrated covers he has has, it's an "OMG" moment.
There is a reason he gets this access.
