->> Tripped across this last night at my local video store: "Black White + Gray: A Portrait of Sam Wagstaff and Robert Mapplethorpe". Given that i'm a fan of Mapplethorpe's naughtier work, I was surprised that i hadn't heard of this docu.
It's principally about Wagstaff and his appetite for collecting photographs, and his influence on the idea of photographs even being collectible and on a par with (gasp) painting or sculpture. The collection he amassed was eventually sold to the J Paul Getty Museum for ~$5M.
Interesting movie that i almost overlooked. |
