->> Hi Folks,
I currently have my site on hostmonster.com but I am running into a problem that they only allow a max of 200,000 files. My spec event stuff generates a lot of files and I want to avoid paying a lot for a co-located server and use a cheap service like HM.
Anyone have a site with a ton of files like mine have a hosting suggestion?
thanks |

->> I've been on GD for a couple of years now. Never had so much as a blip. Be REAL careful for the first 48 hrs when they setup you account. I jumped the gun and started u/l'ing files as soon as the FTP address went live and didn't wait like I was told. Figured that it was just them being overly cautious. Well long story short the FTP machine was setup but not the rest of my account.... first 20K or so files were going into the FTP server and out in to thin air because my hosting server wasn't setup. Cost me a day and a half to figure it out.
Since then it has been VERY smooth sailing. |

->> I'm a HUGE fan of Dreamhost (http://dreamhost.com/hosting.html). Migrated everything from GoDaddy.
Better price, better tools, better interface, better everything. |

->> I LOVE Dreamhost...
My website (www.tiggerlovesyou.com) gets about 2-3 million page views a month and I have something like 750,000 files on there after 4 years or so. And they have no problem with that, and I have no problems with my server. And their prices and service has always been great whenever I had an issue which has been very few times.
Use this link I got from them and they will waive the setup fee. ;)

->> I've been using Dreamhost for a couple of years. It is great and you can't beat the price...BUT....
When Dreamhost does promotions they sometimes get behind on server resources. I have twice ended up on a server that was perpetually overloaded. Not just the occasional slowness that you get with any shared hosting - I mean ongoing, very slow performance.
Both times they were really nice and seamlessly moved everything to another server. But it took a couple of days to check everything and prove that it was an overloaded server.
I still use them and I'm quite happy - but make sure you're aware of this possibility so you can ask to be moved if your server gets overloaded. |

->> David,
Maybe I should have mentioned that I am on a virtual private server...I had some issues like you did while I was on a shared server but as soon as I went to a VPS I had no issues at all...and that was about a year and a half ago. |
