Innovatronix as non-strobe power source

->> I'm going to be working/relaxing in a remote area next week and will have a need to charge my MacBook Pro in between laptop sessions.
I have an Innovatronix Explorer 1200 and am wondering if, with a full charge, will it be enough to recharge the MacBook Pro 2 or 3 times before it loses it's own charge.
Anybody out there have any experience doing something similar and have some insight? The only thing I've used the 'Tronix for is strobes, but it seems like I read about folks using them to power laptops, monitors, etc.
Thanks! |

| ->> Hey Wes you have the Innovatronix in hand already TRY it, don't let someone else tell that is will work. Though I do have one I dont' think it charge more than 2 but I might be wrong. Let me know your results |

| ->> If you have a car - consider a 12 volt power inverter. |

->> We use to have the explorer 1200 and used it to power our laptop all the time with no issues, we just changed to the Alien Bee Vagabond since the explorer decided to walk down a flight of stairs.
So far no issues with powering laptop on the field, if your in the car I recommend a power inverter. |

->> I'm working on my laptop today til the battery drains so I can give it a try myself over the next day or so. I was hoping someone else would have some insight as to whether or not it was even feasible to save me from experimenting. Thanks Rene, now that I know it works, I'm not afraid to try it at least. We'll see how much juice I can squeeze out of it.
Our '08 Grand Caravan has a built in inverter, but I really don't want to burn the gas or risk a dead battery out in the boonies. So I guess I'll take what the ole 'Tronix gives me; hopefully more than one laptop charge. |

->> Wes this is slightly off topic..... If you are a road warrior you should look into a dual input power adapter for your notebook. I have a Kensington model, it accepts both 120 volt AC as well as 12v DC and steps it to the appropriate voltage for the laptop. It comes with a plethora of tips to fit just about anything.
While the inverters are great to have, using one to step up 12 volts from your car to then step down again to the 12-19 volts DC that most laptops use is inefficient at best. If you can cut the inverter out of equation you will pick up increased time. |

| ->> Thanks Eric. I'll admit that your post mostly made no sense to me. Too much science. ;) But my road warrior days are over I think. This is hopefully just an isolated obstacle. The bulk of this venture is a mini-vacation, but I do have to get some work done for clients or I'll fall behind. And I'm planning on doing some landscape shooting to show another potential client so it'd be nice to go ahead and get through some of those images while I'm still in the field. |
