Problem with CF cards
Harvey Levine, Photographer
Harrisburg | PA | | Posted: 5:08 PM on 07.07.09
->> I have been using the San Disk Extreme IV cards as well as the Ducati versions. I shoot a number of charity bike ride events and when I do so, I often shoot long bursts. When I use the San Disk 4 gig cards, often it takes forever for the buffer to reset and for the images to write to the card. When I put in my Lexar 2 gig card this doesn't happen and the buffer resets immediately. These cards are supposed to be the same speed. Any ides on what's going on here?

->> Any chance of a "counterfit card?" There were a lot of deliberately mislabled CF cards on the market at one time, and here is a link to some information about this:

->> Check this page over at Rob Galbraith's site, he tests different cards on different cameras. Some cameras simply perform better with Lexar vs. Sandisk and vice-versa...

->> Could just be a bad batch of cards. I would suggest contacting Sandisk and asking them, they are pretty good with returns (I had a couple of Extreme's go bad 2 years after I bought 'em and they took 'em back no questions asked)

->> I bought the Ducati's in Philly and the Extreme IV's at B&H both very reputable stores so it's unlikely I would get card from a bad batch at 2 different stores. However, I will call Sandisk.
