1D saturation...

| ->> I have a 1D and a 1D Mark III, and on a recent assignment, I noticed that my 1D files are not nearly as rich in color as the ones from my Mark III straight out of the camera. I spoke to another SS member about this, and he suggested the de-green curve file, which I am already using. Any other suggestions? |

| ->> I'd recommend shooting RAW on the 1D. JPEGs from that camera are pretty awful in comparison to newer bodies, even with the tone curve file you are referring to. Since it is only a 4MP file, the RAW files will be very manageable in terms of processing and file size. |

| ->> I already do that...I figured that because the files were much smaller, I wouldn't lose any time processing those, at least compared to the Mark III. Thanks for your input, Mr. Metzendorf! |

->> One of the issues with the 1D is it had a bug when assigning the aRGB (Adobe) color-space to JPGs. I always had mine set to use Adobe RGB and then used Photoshop or Lightroom or PhotoMechanic to assign the right designation.
Note that you want it to assign the setting, not convert to the colorspace. The camera already had the colorspace, they just called it the wrong thing or they didn't store that it had been set - I forget which it was 'cause it's been years since I learned it.
That said, I agree with Jim, shoot RAW, or RAW with JPEG if you want the JPEGs for instant processing. The 1D RAW files with a tone curve can look very nice. They don't have the latitude of images from the newer sensors, but they still hold up well. |
