->> I'll be flying into Barcelona, Spain with my wife and 2 friends. Would love to get any recommendations from ss.com member(s) who have visited and stayed in Barcelona. We're looking for recommendations to find a place to stay in Barcelona for 3 nights before we embark for our Mediterranean Cruise. I definitely will do some photographing through our vacation.
Thanks and we'd appreciate for your recommendations.

Modern design, rooftop pool, near a metro station, and killer views of the city/ocean. Rates were around 100€/night.

Also, be aware that if you take a taxi to and from the airport, they add on fees for each bag you bring (it's like 1.50 euro I think).

If you need an easy to carry guide to Barcelona, I would recommend the Top 10 Barcelona guide book.

Have a great time in Barcelona! It's an amazing city!

->> Go to as many Goudi works as you can. The gothic cathedral he designed is straight out of a science fiction pulp. The beach recommendation is a good one. The first morning after we flew in, I went for a run on the beach, the clubs were just letting out (7am!) and a group of swimmers were swimming to shore towards me. As they started to come out, the group of guys that I realized quickly wearing nothing but swim caps ran a tight formation right through me! Geez Louis! The next night my wife and I were walking the beach and saw several couples "knowing" each other in the biblical sense against a beachwall. Quite the scene.

We loved the Ritz-Carlton, best bed I ever slept on, and great service. There is a swedish restaurant in the gothic district, I want to say Svuen or something, that had the best food we ate in Barcelona, but the tapas all around can't be beat.

Go to the Cava-wine tasting at Cordoniu at Montserrat (and see the monestary up there too) Condoniu was established in the 1550's and spectacular. If you like wine, drink up likes its water after a football game! It tastes fantastic since Spanish wine doesn't have the preservatives the FDA forces imported wine to have when it comes into the states, you don't get the dry head headache I always seem to get when I drink wine here. Have fun!

As a child in Europe I was exposed to nudity, great food, wine and art. And for sure nudity didnt make me or any of my European friends evil folks or sex maniac. That is the norm in Spain, France, Greece, Italy and other nations except for puritan UK. Even on tv shows is common. Otherwise lets no take children to US museums or art shows.

In the USA I was exposed to plenty of great things too including war, guns and destruction. Take your pick.

Michael, Barcelona and any other place in Spain is amazing and full of beautiful European people. Most of them look like models slim and tall. Very chic. Then its history, fashion, architecture, art, music, cinema and its golden age including arriving to the Americas in 1492 long before the UK.

Plenty of top chefs, including Mario Batali, think that Spain does have the best food in the world. www.spainontheroadagain.comthis is his show with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Anthony Bourdain had said this on several of his TV shows too.

So get ready to eat great meals. Plenty of seafood.
El Bulli restaurant in Barcelona was named the top restaurant in the world by S. Pellegrino "World's 50 Best Restaurants 2009."

Just keep in mind Spain, like the rest of Western Europe, is not cheap. Sadly those days are gone.
Mass transportation is one of the best in the world. Obama praised the train system in Spain recently.

Just google Barcelona and you will find plenty. Like mentioned by others here do the Gaudi tour, Picasso, Miro and Dali Museum. Also the Ramblas and La Boqueria (great food market).
But to know Barcelona you need to travel much longer than 3 days.

Also compared with the USA, or most cities in the USA, crime is very low.

->> Definatley visit as much Gaudi as possible, it's amazing to look at. The Sagrada Familia Cathederal is amazing. On the saftey side, keep your belongings close ! I know it's the same you go anywhere in the world, but Barcelona does unfortunatley have a reputation in Europe as a bad spot for tourists being separated with there stuff....

->> Hi Michael --- I'll let you know more on Barcelona, as I'll be spending 5 days there before heading off to Paris later this month. As an architecture major, I am looking forward to all the modernist buildings, as well as the ancient ones. Gaudi's work is amazing. Check out frommers.com of equivalent sites to get an idea of the city.
