Inexpensive E-6 and C-41 processing
Eric Kayne, Photographer

->> Hi Folks,

Anyone know where I can get inexpensive E-6 and C-41 processing for 120 and 220 film? The labs here in Houston want over $16.00 a roll for process only on a 220 roll of E-6...

Thanks in advance,

Eric Kayne

->> Eric,

It sounds kind of funny, but I have been sending my 120 stuff to the most unlikely place....Wal-Mart. They then send it out and develop the film. It has been a good 6 months or so since I did it, but I believe a color roll was somewhere around $3 a roll, if not less (no prints).
In the 'special instructions' section of the envelope, I always wrote "120 SIZE C41 NEGATIVE COLOR FILM - DEVELOP ONLY" It always took a while to get back (about 5-7 days), but at the price, I can't complain.

I've had roughly 30-40 rolls developed so far and not one problem. Are they as good as the ones I can get developed for over $14 a roll at the local camera store? I wouldn't know...Never paid that much

->> For just regular C-41, wolf and ritz camera locations and process it whether they know they can or not.

Most of the guys working the lab don't even realize they can process the medium format stuff, but they can, they just arent set up to make prints from them.

All they need to to is use the larger carrier and use a dark box to remove the film off the original reels and roll them into the 120/220 carrier. Then the carrier feeds the reel through the processor.

Im sure how much it costs, but it should be the same price as running 35mm film through the processor which should be around 6 bux.

HPI is the only place I know of that processes E-6 in house. Wolf/Ritz locations should only have the chemicals for C-41 processing. They Kirby location used to be able to process E-6 in house, but its unlikely still the case.
