IR Converted camera....

->> probably a silly question but-
if the shutter blows on a camera that was converted to IR and you fix it, will it still have the IR conversion?
Would Nikon even repair such camera? |

->> The IR conversion has to do with the chip and processor, not the shutter.
As far as repair goes, not sure. They definitely won't do any warranty work on it and may turn it away outright. But there are many places you can go, such as Mid-State Camera Repair, to get a new shutter installed and I'm sure they don't care one bit about any other work done on the camera. |

I had a Canon 10d converted and basically all that happened was the IR bypass filter that NORMALLY sits on top of the sensor was replaced by an equivalent piece of wratten (red) glass. The camera pretty much had to be completely dismantled to get this done voiding any kind of warranty. But basically if you get your shutter replaced it shouldn't impact your IR job at all. |
