Homeplate remote

| ->> I have gotten access to put a remote camera in front of home plate during a minor league home run derby in July. I have my lexan which is a 1/4" thick. This is where the dilema comes in: I can take the sheet of it and drive steel rods into the ground to support it and then put the camera behind it on an Overexposed plate OR I can build a box and put the camera inside. The only thing that keeps from building the box is the weight of the box after being built is how to support it to angle it. Any help from all the remote guru's would greatly be appreciated. |

->> Marvin,
Look at this old SS article for some ideas:

But I don't see why you can't build the box with a 1/4-20 thread socket in the bottom and put it on a ball head on the plate. |

->> what if you build the box independent of the camera and plate/ball head.
Put the camera on the plate and build the box around the entire setup.
just a thought |

->> Marvin- USA TODAY'S Bob Deutsch has done a remote like this for many of the home run derby's at the MLB All Star Game (I believe he was the first to do this), as has Getty's Jed Jacobsohn (I saw him do it in Houston in 2004). You might want to check in with them to see what worked well for them.
They did not use a box- they just kinda went for it and got some VERY nice results.
Good luck! |

| ->> Neither Deutsch nor Jacobsohn used any protective shield (Nor box)to guard their remote cameras. Keep in mind that this is a home run derby with pitches being thrown from a person of their choice. It is not a game situation where the pitcher is trying to fool the batter. Chances of a the participant hitting a ground ball are, pun in tended, remote. |
