->> I have installed the 3.0 software upgrade on my 3G. Process was very smooth, only took about 5 mnutes.
Has anyone noticed that things seem to be running slower, in particular the te it takes an app to boot up, as well as the phone freezing when I want to quit one app and go to another? |

->> Andrew,
I did not notice any issues with mine, but I only spent a day on it before i upgraded to the 3G S.
Donald. Tethering is only on the 3G or 3G S, not the first gen iPhone. |

->> Andrew and Eric - Just thought of something: do you guys restart your phones on a regular basis? It's a good practice as these phones are basically just computers. Restarting the phones 1-2 times a week helps keep the RAM clear. There's an app called Free Memory that helps do this without restarting, but I just shut my phone down once in a while overnight. Whenever I forget to restart for awhile then do so I immediately notice an increase in speed and performance.
I'd give this a try as I'm skeptical the problems you guys are having are related to the 3.0 update, but I don't know what apps your running, or how many or how often. |

->> No crashing problems here for me...
Signal between 3G mode an Edge mode are different. I typically have great signal either way at my house, but not after this update. Not sure what's up with that...
My big problem is getting app's to sync from iTunes to the phone. I never had any trouble before the update. Now the only way I can get app's to the phone or update them is if I do it from the phone itself.
I checked and it seems to sync music and photos just fine... |

->> I am not having the problems that everyone else is having. though, I've been on 3.0 for a few months now and have gotten used to the speed, or rather the fact that my apps crashed more in earlier versions and it was slower in previous versions. My apps updated as normal on my computer and transfered. Note that if the apps you have arent 3.0 compatible then you may have trouble.

Just took a look at that link and now it seems to be in German. |

->> I have restarted the phone, and the slowness is better, but the speed is not what it used to be when running 2.2 (I think that was the previous version).
If the speed does not get better, I might have to downgrade!!! |

| ->> Andrew - I would also wait until most/all of your apps are upgraded to be optimized to 3.0 - I've found that as they're upgraded they tend to run better. |

No other problems to report at this time... |

->> Here's a story that ran a couple of weeks ago regarding AT&T and tethering. At WWDC when Apple announced that OS 3 is capable of tethering, they also added it was going to be available at launch in a number of countries. At the same time projected on the screen behind the podium are the names of the carriers that are offering tethering with the glaring omission being AT&T.
Announcing it this way was viewed by many Apple watchers at the time as a jab at AT&T for not getting on the tethering bandwagon.

->> I do find it bizarre that AT&T excluded the iPhone from MMS (until "late summer") and from tethering (in the US) when both features are available from the wireless provider with other phone models.
Doesn't make much sense considering the iPhone is supposed to be one of the top smart phones. |

->> After restoring my iphone a number of times I now have a version of 3.o that works well for me. I have absolutely no clue why it was so slow and crashy before but many others are having the same problem.
If anyone still needs help getting your phone to work on 3.0 shoot me an email and I will send you the work around I used. And no I am not talking about jailbreaking it or anything of the like. :-)
If you want to tether your phone I can help with that also. Just drop a line.
Happy Monday all |

->> Upgrading my old 3G from 2.2 to 3.0 went extremely smooth. No hiccups at all and the phone is running quite nicely.
Still, it's not nearly as fast as the 3GS! |

Robert, you need to have at least the 3G phone, it wont work with the 1st gen version.
Also, go to the link ON the phone. Then follow the ATT link and do the install. That will install the profile on your phone. Then when you go into network settings you'll see the option for tethering.
But you need to do it from the phone. If you follow that link on a computer, you do get some German page. Just type the link into Safari on the phone and it should take your right through the steps. |

->> The link provided in the other thread on teathering works, it is extremely easy, no moving or deleting files from a computer then adding a file back, everything is done in the phone by the phone. For 3G phones just go to the link, from your iphone, not computer.
http://www.benm.at/help/help.php
scroll down to Tethering/Internet Settings click download, select usa then AT&T as your provider, install the profile. After installing the profile visual voicemail will be disabled, got to settings, then general, then network, scroll to the bottom, select reset, and reset network settings, your voicemail will return and teathering will still be enabled. |

Data is unlimited on the iphone, no billing surprise, but I don't use it often just when needed. |
