This belongs on Craigslist, not Journalism Jobs.

Florida has always been a depressed salary market, so one might argue 20-30k is generous.

The real problem is that there is at least as little job security there as any newspaper these days. Sure, they're making a go of it, but right now there is no reliable model for an online local news web site.

Keep an eye on them tho', a year from now we could all be scrambling to copy their model.

Gosh, where have we heard this before?
We're already copying their model...we're headed in that direction with our pay cuts and furloughs. 8)

->> The pay and the hours are what's wrong with it. They tell me the employer doesn't give a rat's ass about the quality of life of the employees nor the quality of the work they produce. The employer knows no one can work that hard for so little money for long and doesn't care how many people leave. That's the same money (literally -- NOT adjusted for inflation) I started working for at newspapers almost 30 years ago!

It's the difference between Lowe's and the family-owned hardware store in the small town where I grew up. I'll only go to Lowe's if the other store, where they know me by name, and where everyone has been there for years and can tell me exactly what I need and how to use it, doesn't have it. I know I'm going to pay more, but it's worth it.

Ditto a newspaper or web site. I'd rather pay a PJ more and treat him/her better becasuse I'll get better results and have lots fewer headaches. But that doesn't show up on the bottom line, because we don't financially account for the costs of turnover, and the time spent training new talent that leaves soon afterward, and the lower quality of their work.

->> I made $18,600 at my first job out of college and they acted as though living on the coast Oregon was pay enough. And they expected you to monitor the scanner 24/7. There were more reporters than photographers, but not a one of them ever had that obligation. Pulleeezz!
