Does anyone know of any coming up in that area?

->> Lisa, not sure what kind of events you are looking for, but one of the the first things that came to mind was Calumet Photo. This http://tinyurl.com/lu44gv will take you to their events page.
They have everything from basic photography to advanced; portraiture, wedding and computers. Free (I think some) to $50, $100+. Some are hands on kinda learning how to classes, some are talks with various photographers about their work. Make sure to check both Chicago and Oak Brook, depending on how far you want to drive. Oak Brook isn't too bad of a drive from downtown as long as you do it other than rush hour.
I know in your last post you asked about photo stores, Helix was one that was suggested. They also have some different seminars, tho their's aren't planned as far in advance. Helixphoto.com
Somebody from Chicago speak up, any colleges or other advanced education places have anything during the summer with regular class out?
