->> I'm watching "Apocalypse Now" and watching Dennis Hopper's character and got to thinking about awesome movie PJ's.
I also like Lacerda in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" and Rafterman in "Full Metal Jacket."
Who else are some of your all favorite PJ's in movies.

->> Roy Scheider as Paul Marish in the HBO Original "Somebody has to Shoot The Picture". It was written by journalist Doug Magee and is a really good "thinking" movie.

They were television producers, not photojournalists, but with the growing demand for photojournalists to shoot video it seemed relevant. |

->> Jennifer Connelly as Maddy Bowen in Blood Diamond. Journalist in Africa looking for story about blood diamonds and the atrocities that come from the sales of these diamonds. Gory I really enjoy that movie.
Surprised no one has said Jimmy Stewart in Rear Window. Thats one of my all time favorites. Action sports photographer gets hurt becomes wheelchair bound and left to spy on his neighbors with a telephoto.
For you young young kids, its the original disturbia sans LaBeouf |

->> I second Juliann.....James Woods in Salvador!
Most gut wrenching moment ever, having your dead friends war film exposed right in front of you! Then 20 minutes later (movie time) having beers with the same guys! Classic, watched over and over in College!
Keep in mind that "Under Fire" was very loosely based on the killing of photojournalist Bill Stewart in Nicaragua, just days before the Somoza regime fell in 1979. |

->> I have to agree
John Malkovich in the Killing Fields.
Biggest joke PJ ever was Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) in the 1989 Batman.
Followed by Clint Eastwood in "Bridges of Madison County". C'mon, he got to shoot for National Geographic because they liked some photos he took for a calendar? Although I did respect the fact they had him keep his film in a refrigerator. |

I mean, they're pretty snug these days, but after literally thousands of washings, sooooooo soft.
Perfect for watching all kinds of movies, especially slasher flicks ...

Maybe he had a 4gig card in there... |

->> At least Nolte's camera HAD FILM IN IT! If you watch the rewind knob, like during the scene in the car where he photographs Cassidy, you can see it spinning away.
My favorite character though is the guy shooting with James Woods in Salvador. Runs into the street in front of an on-coming plane with machine guns blazing in order to get the shot..... |

->> He wasn't exactly a photojournalist by today's standards, but he had that Weegee flair... That's the Jude Law character, Harlen Maguire, in the movie "Road To Perdition"..
He would never be a favorite, but he had to be one of creepiest photographers in the movie lore. |

Interesting trivia according to http://www.iainglen.com/frankies-house.php
Glen actually shot during the filming with Tim Page's Nikon F that he used to cover the war.
The link to purchase the DVD takes you to Amazon where it says it's unavailable.

| ->> Nick Nolte's character in "Under Fire" is top notch and a longtime favorite, but (IMO) the finest portrayal of a photojournalist by an actor is Rade Serbedzija's character, Aleksander, in the 1994 Macedonian film "Before the Rain." Nominated for an Academy Award as Best Foreign Film in 1995, it was writer / director Milcho Manchevski's first work. Having worked in the Balklands in the late 1990's; the cinematography, haunting soundtrack, and the brilliant acting make it one of my personal favorites. It is finally available on DVD, distributed by Criterion films. Treat yourself and find it, at least as a rental. -cg. |

I loved Nick Nolte's performance in Under Fire and James Woods was excellent in Salvador.
The Killing Fields had some excellent footage of photographers working and Apocalyse Now is one of my favorite movies, but Dennis Hopper wasn't all that good unless you consider his ablity to act crazy. |
