->> Tim, when Zevs was around, multimedia was Ektachrome, multiple projectors and a cassette tape spliced and layered with sound and signals to the projector controller.
I have to say, the workshop was more than worth it. For newspaper photographers, or anyone else, it is the kick in the ass that we need. Or at least I did. I had no experience other than shooting my kids with video and learning FCP seemed rather daunting.
I may be late to the bandwagon, but if you want to tell stories, you need to know this stuff. Skills such as manual focus, producing a perfect print, being able to process 150 rolls of film in three hours, maintaining a processing machine, doing killer work in PhotoShop... They are all great skills, but there are a lot of skills that have been left behind. Not to say stills are dead, but they have increasingly become just part of the way we tell stories. I still enjoy shooting and processing b/w, shooting large format and wish i had my darkroom instead of a scanner, but they are just tools to an end.
There may be pissing matches between the two main workshops, but that doesn't really matter. They are, I'm sure, both great. The important thing is to get the skills/tools and start telling stories with those skills rather than relying on our singular, and I still think important, skill in capturing a story in one frame. |

->> Sam this is great! I think you did an excellent job showing their character and telling their story. It seems like you had the benefit of four interesting and relaxed subjects, which is always helpful to the end product!
Good work. |
